Drive: Deep-freeze logistics with zero-pressure accumulation

Interroll’s RollerDrive EC5000 drive family for deep-freeze applications masters material flow under extreme conditions

RollerDrive EC5000 drive family for deep-freeze logistics

To ensure that users and system integrators can also harness the technical performance of its modular conveyor platform MCP in deep-freeze applications, Interroll has equipped its RollerDrive EC 5000 product family with the controls and power supplies required to operate at temperatures of minus 30 degrees Celsius. This new capability follows comprehensive adjustments and tests in the company’s Innovation Projects and Development Center (IPDC). “By deploying this technology platform in deep-freeze logistics, system integrators can now make even finer customizations to meet their customers’ demands,” says Florian Kley, Global Product Manager for the modular conveyor platform MCP. “This is made possible not only by the 48V and 24V systems, but also through the output power, which is available in 20, 35 and 50-watt versions for various applications. At the same time, conveyor systems in deep-freeze environments now also offer data transparency thanks to the EC5000 with bus interface.”

Efficient material flow for all applications

With this solution, users are able to constantly obtain data on performance as well as the number of cycles or operating hours. The bus interface additionally opens the door to the world of fully automated Industry 4.0 functionality. Together with Interroll’s MultiControl system, which is compatible with multiple protocols such as PROFINET, EtherNet/IP and EtherCat, the solution allows users to visualize on a screen a wealth of information and functions via the PLC or a web interface. It also enables them to perform preventive maintenance during less busy periods. What’s more, the product can be positioned with millimeter precision on the conveyor line, allowing seamless integration with robots or automated gripper arms.

Easy planning and implementation

With Interroll’s proven conveyor platform, users can easily put together or expand a high-performance material-handling solution for deep-freeze areas with plug-and-play products. And processes can be simplified in the project planning stage with Interroll’s user-friendly Layouter planning software, which is available free of charge. Standardized interface technology also ensures seamless connections to higher-level IT systems.
